Mend Tacoma:
Repairing the Cultural Fabric of Tacoma
ABOUT MEND
From a Spacial Justice Theoretical Framework Perspective, if the City of Tacoma intends to shift the trajectory of the economic displacement of its long-standing residents, educating its community members and leaders and engaging in transparent discourse is needed to take action with all of Tacoma’s citizens in mind. What I am proposing is a workshop intended to educate not only Tacoma’s constituents but also it’s elected officials with the intention of shifting public perception to aid in repairing the harms gentrification has already caused as well as preventing any future harms. This would allow the citizens and elected officials of Tacoma to move forward armed with the necessary information to make and sustain equitable change.
Citizens of Tacoma and it leaders need an increase in understanding of the harmful impacts of gentrification to prevent further displacement of the long-standing citizens of Tacoma.
Mend’s goal is to educate the citizens and leaders of the City of Tacoma about the harms of gentrification and to engage in prevention of further displacement and restorative action to repair harms caused by economic displacement.
